Practice SAT score: what range should you expect?

A practice score is one measurement, and it comes with a margin. Enter the totals your practice tests gave you and see the range they point to, how far to trust it, and what one more test would change.

Your practice test totals, oldest first

One is enough. Each is a total between 400 and 1600, as the test reported it.

Enter at least one total between 400 and 1600.

How the range is worked out

The middle of the range is a weighted average of your last three tests, counted one, two and three from oldest to newest, because you improve while you practise and the newest result says most about where you are now.

The width of the range depends on how many tests stand behind it. One test gives the widest range; three give the narrowest, and it stops there, because the real test itself cannot measure a total more tightly than that. These are the same margins our own mocks report, and how scores work sets out where they come from and what they are not.

It does not convert a number of correct answers into a score. The conversion the Digital SAT uses is not published, and it is not one table: it depends on which second module you were routed to.

Common questions

Is this an SAT score calculator?
Not the usual kind. It does not turn a number of correct answers into a score: the Digital SAT's real conversion is not published and depends on which second module you were given, so any tool that prints one score for a raw count is guessing. This one starts from the scores your practice tests reported and says what range they point to.
Why a range and not one number?
Because one test is one measurement. Sit the same test twice on two days and the totals differ, with nothing learned in between. A range with a stated margin says what a single number hides.
How many practice tests do I need for a tight range?
Three full tests under real conditions narrow the range about as far as it will go. More than three do not make it tighter than the real test itself can measure.
Which practice scores should I enter?
Full-length tests taken under timed conditions, most recent last. Official Bluebook practice tests are the closest thing to the real one. Scores from different platforms sit on slightly different scales, so mixing them makes the range less reliable.
Is it free?
Yes, with no account. Nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.
