These terms govern your use of Preptics. By creating an account or buying a track pass you agree to them.

What we provide

Practice exams, explanations, analytics and related study tools. Features are labelled across the site with their status — Available now, Partly live, In build or Planned. Only features marked as available now are part of what you are paying for today. Where something is marked partly live, only the part described as working today is included; anything else may change or may not ship.

How the service works

You should know what you are relying on, so here is the short version. The full explanation, with the numbers, is on how Preptics works.

Practice tests follow the Digital SAT’s structure: two modules per section, with the second chosen by how you did on the first, on clocks held by our server.
Scores are estimates, reported as ranges. They come from conversion tables we calibrated ourselves, not from the College Board’s equating, which is not public. How they are calculated is published on how scores work, and if we change that materially we will say so there.
Skill estimates, review timing and your study plan are automatic. Our software calculates them from your answers and timings, and the plan rearranges itself as they change — after drills, lessons and practice tests, not on a fixed schedule. They are guidance for your studying. They can be wrong, particularly early on when there is little evidence, and they never change a score.
Answers given too quickly to have been read are left out of your skill estimates. They still count towards your score exactly as they would on test day.
Question statistics are re-estimated from everyone’s answers. A question whose statistics suggest it is flawed is sent to a person for review; software never deletes or rewrites a question on its own.
The graphing calculator is our own, built to work like the calculator in the real test. It is not the calculator you will use on test day.

AI features

Some features use AI. How we use AI lists each one, the model and provider behind it, and what is and is not sent. By using those features you accept the following.

AI never calculates your results. Every score, range, percentage and count about your work is calculated by our own software. If a written explanation ever seems to disagree with a number on the same screen, the number is what we stand behind — and please tell us.
AI can be wrong. Explanations and debriefs are study help, not tutoring, counselling or advice about admissions, and they may be incomplete or mistaken.
Never during a timed exam. No AI feature is available inside a sitting.
Limits apply. AI features have daily and weekly limits per account, listed on how we use AI. When a limit is reached, or no provider meeting our data-retention requirement is available, you get our standard wording instead.
Our questions and lessons are written with AI assistance and checked before publication, as described on how questions are made.

Third-party services

We rely on other companies for hosting, our database, payments, email and AI. Each is named on third-party services, with what it receives. An outage at one of them can interrupt the service. Payments are taken by our payment provider as merchant of record, whose checkout terms also apply to your purchase.

No guarantee of exam success

We do not guarantee any score on any exam. Our projected score is an estimate produced from your performance on our practice material, not a forecast of your real result, and it is not affiliated with any exam body's scoring. Preparation materials are a study aid, not a substitute for understanding the subject.

Our content is original, and it is ours

All questions, explanations and materials are original works created by Preptics. You may use them for your own personal study. You may not copy, republish, resell, scrape, or use them to train a model, or share your account so others can access them.

We seed uniquely identifiable material into accounts. If our content appears elsewhere, we can generally tell which account it came from.

Your account

One account per person. Accounts are not transferable or shareable.
You are responsible for activity under your account.
Age. You must be at least 13 to hold an account. If you are under 18, tell us at signup — it is one checkbox, and it changes two defaults in your favour: your name is kept off the public leaderboard, and the optional analytics described below stay switched off unless you turn them on yourself. If you are under 18, please read these terms with a parent or guardian.
We limit the number of devices per account and may ask you to re-authenticate. Where we detect sharing, our first steps are always informational — see our acceptable use policy.

Your data, and what you agreed to

You accepted these terms and the privacy policy when you created your account. We record the date and the version you accepted, so that if we change either document we can tell what you actually agreed to rather than assuming it was the current wording. A material change means we ask you again; a corrected typo does not.

Providing the service means holding your work: your answers, your timings, your scores, and the record of how you moved through a question — which options you crossed out, which questions you came back to, how long a lesson card held you. Those are the raw material of the analytics you are paying for. We cannot show you where your marks went without them, which is why they are part of the service rather than an optional extra.

What is optional is separate, and it is off by default. Sharing that same record so that we can find questions that are unfair, mis-keyed or badly worded is a distinct choice with its own checkbox, and declining it changes nothing about what you get. You can turn it on or off whenever you like in settings, and turning it off stops the collection from that moment.

There are things we have decided not to collect at all, and we have written them down rather than left them unsaid — no mouse or keystroke tracking, no reading of the text you highlight, no following you off this site, and no guesses about your mood, focus or wellbeing. The privacy policy lists them in full, and we consider that list part of what we are promising you.

Exam integrity

Leaderboard placement depends on exams being sat under consistent conditions. We record integrity signals during exams, described in our privacy policy. An exam we cannot treat as ranked still keeps its score, explanations and analytics for you — it simply may not appear publicly. You can appeal any such decision and a person will review it.

Payment

Prices are shown before purchase and charged by our payment provider acting as merchant of record. A track pass grants access for the stated period, including features that ship within that period. Refunds are governed by our refund policy.

During the beta. While Preptics is in beta, access to the Digital SAT track is free for every account and passes are not sold. We will tell account holders by email before the beta ends and passes go on sale; free access granted during the beta ends on the date given in that notice. Your scores, study plan and history are not affected by the beta ending.

The Founder’s Pass. The Founder’s Pass is a voluntary, single payment of an amount you choose, above the minimum shown at checkout. It does not grant access to anything and does not change what you can use. In return you receive a numbered Early Supporter Certificate, shown with the display name on your account. It is refunded in full if you ask within 14 days of paying, and a refund withdraws the certificate.

Acceptable use

Our acceptable use policy forms part of these terms. In short: do not share accounts, do not scrape, do not upload or request leaked exam content, and do not attack the service.

Feedback and reports

If you report a question, suggest a feature or send us other feedback, we may use it to improve the service without owing you anything for it. A question report protects other students from a bad question, so it is kept after you delete your account, detached from you and with any text you wrote removed.

Changes to the service and to these terms

We keep improving the service, including how estimates are calculated. When a change is material, we say so where it matters — a scoring change on how scores work, a change to what we collect or who receives it in the privacy policy and on third-party services. If these terms or the privacy policy change materially, the app tells you the next time you use it, links the new version, and asks you to accept it; we record which version you accepted and when.

Ending the agreement

You may delete your account at any time from settings. We may suspend or terminate an account for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, and we will tell you why and give you a way to respond.

Liability

The service is provided as-is. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and if you are a consumer your statutory rights are unaffected.

Trademarks

Preptics is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any testing body. Exam names and codes are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe what our materials prepare you for.
