Preptics

For tutors, coaching centres and counsellors

What your students can use today, and what we plan to build for you

Preptics gives your students three full-length adaptive Digital SAT® mocks and, after each one, a report that works out where marks were lost and why, and not only which questions were wrong. All of that works today. There is no tutor login yet.

This page says what exists, what we plan to build for coaches, what it will cost and where we are the wrong tool. If you teach or advise students for this test, tell us what you would need — a person reads every message.

Three full-length adaptive mocks
Two sections, two modules each, the second module routed by the first. Each module runs on its own clock, held on our server, with the 10-minute break between sections and our own graphing calculator in Math.
A score range, not a single number
±60 points after one mock, ±45 after two, ±40 after three or more. We do not have the College Board's equating data, so we say how wide the estimate is.
Why marks were lost, where we can tell
Each wrong answer is checked against a set of rules: answered too fast, changed a right answer, took too long, a slip on a skill they usually get right, late in the module, or not learned yet. The rules are printed with the result. A mistake no rule fits is left as “no clear pattern” and not guessed at, and in some sittings that is most of them.
Where the time went
Time on every question, drawn against that module's budget for one question.
What to do next
A plan built backwards from their test date, 90 micro-lessons across the 30 skills, drills on the skills they keep missing, and spaced review.
Extended time
A student who has extended time sets 1.5× or 2× in their settings, and every module clock follows.
The report card chapter “What do I know?”: each content domain of Reading and Writing and of Math drawn as a row of squares, one per question, filled when the answer was right, with the skills that cost questions listed underneath.
The report chapter “What do I know?”: one square per question, by content domain, with the skills that cost marks listed underneath. · A sample account, not a real student's results.

How you see their work today

Your student sends it to you. Every report has a Save as PDF button, and a student can share a result card by link. That is all there is for now. The demo shows the whole student side without an account.

What we plan to build for coachesLink to the section: What we plan to build for coaches

Planned

None of this exists yet. We will build it with the first coaches who ask for it, and this is what it would do first.

  • A class your students join with a code you give them.
  • A roster: who has sat which mock, their latest score range, their target and their test date.
  • Each student's report as they see it, question by question.
  • A class view: skills by student, and the causes of lost marks across the class, so you can see what to teach next.
  • A log of official practice tests. Students enter the scores from the practice tests they sit in the College Board's Bluebook app, so every test they take is in one place beside their Preptics mocks.

After that: seats you buy for your students, work you set with a due date, and a report to hand a parent.

Most of your students are under 18, so these two rules are fixed before anything is built.

  1. The student chooses. They join your class themselves, see in plain words what you will be able to see, and can leave at any moment from a screen that lists everyone who can see their work.
  2. Performance, never conduct. A coach sees how a student did. A coach does not see how, when or where they studied.

A coach will see

  • Score ranges, with their confidence
  • Skills, and how well each is known
  • Why marks were lost
  • Time on each question
  • Each question and the answer chosen
  • What was completed, and on which date
  • Target score and test date
  • Official tests the student chose to log

A coach will never see

  • Integrity signals from a timed sitting
  • The time of day anybody studied
  • Devices or locations
  • A student's highlights, notes and scratch work
  • Messages: there is no chat between a coach and a student

Stated plainly, because you would find these in your first 10 minutes anyway.

Three mocks
Platforms built for tutoring companies offer 12 or more, and the College Board's own app has more official practice tests than we have mocks. A fourth is being written. If your course needs a new full test every week for 12 weeks, we cannot give you that.
The Digital SAT only
PSAT/NMSQT and ACT tracks are on the roadmap and not started.
No white-label
You cannot put your own brand on it, upload your own questions or build your own tests.
A range, not a number
Some parents want one number. We will not print one, because a practice test cannot support it.
Percentiles are ours, not national
They compare a student against other people practising here. They are useful for orientation and are not a national ranking.
A team of two
A person answers every message. Not within the hour.

Nothing today: the beta is free for every student. These are the prices we plan to charge when it ends, and we will confirm them before then.

Seats for your students

A seat is full access for one student: every mock, lesson and drill. You buy several at once and give each to a student, and the more you buy together the less each costs. Fewer than 5 cost what a student pays alone.

Can I see my students' results today?
Not inside Preptics. Every report has a Save as PDF button and a student can share a result card by link, so today your students send their results to you. A class view, where students join with a code and you see each report, is what we plan to build first.
How many practice tests are there?
Three full-length adaptive mocks, with a fourth being written. We publish a mock only once every one of its six adaptive panels is full.
Are the practice questions real SAT questions?
No, and no third party has them — they are the College Board's copyrighted work. Every question on Preptics is original, written against the published blueprint, and checked by a person before it is published.
What does it cost?
Nothing, while Preptics is in beta: every mock, lesson and drill is free for every student, and no card is asked for. At launch a student gets two full mocks free, and paid access will be $9.99 for three months or $24.99 for twelve. Seats a tutor buys for several students are planned at 20% to 50% below that. Every price is one payment and nothing renews by itself.
Do you cover the PSAT or the ACT?
No. Preptics covers the Digital SAT only. PSAT/NMSQT is the next track on the roadmap and none of it is built.
What happens to a student's data?
Students can export or delete everything from their account settings without contacting us. A student who says they are under 18 is kept off the public leaderboard by default. We do not sell data and there is no advertising on the platform.

Three things help us most: how many students you prepare, what they practise on now, and what you would need a class view to show.

We keep what you write here to reply to you, and for nothing else.
